Aventine is honoured to be the first in the world to publicly unveil the new coinage designs in our charity auction with the portrait effigy by Dan Thorne, ahead of the RBNZ and NZ Post, which are set to appear on New Zealand's current circulating coins—from the 10 Cents to the $2.
From 16th to 23 September 2024, Aventine is also holding A Charity Sale of the First Coinage Portrait Set of Charles III for New Zealand, with all proceeds donated to Save the Kiwi.
The new design of our nation's definitive coins, set to appear within the next few years, marks the transition between Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles III and the first change of monarch for New Zealand since 1953.
The Designs Include:
10 Cents: Koruru ( Māori carved mask ): A Māori gable mask, often found as an architectural feature on meeting houses.
20 Cents: Pūkākī ( Ngāti Whakaue Chief ): A representation of Pūkākī, a significant 18th-century chief of Ngāti Whakaue iwi.
50 Cents: Endeavour: The HMS Endeavour, the ship Captain Cook sailed on during his first arrival in New Zealand, with Mount Taranaki in the background.
One Dollar: Kiwi: New Zealand's national bird, the Kiwi, is depicted alongside the iconic Silver Fern.
Two Dollars: White Heron ( Kōtuku ): A sacred bird in Māori culture, the white heron is celebrated for its rarity and beauty.
