The Waitangi Crown is New Zealand's most iconic numismatic item, depicting the pivotal agreement representing the establishment of the Treaty of Waitangi on 6th February 1840.
Featuring on its reverse, a finely detailed depiction of Ngāpuhi Māori chief Tāmati Wāka Nene and New Zealand's first governor William Hobson shaking hands beneath a crown, along with the inscription "NEW ZEALAND CROWN 1935 WAITANGI". On the obverse, the portrait of King George V, surrounded by the inscription "GEORGE V KING EMPEROR".
