Auckland’s Coin & Banknote Dealership

Aventine is an Australasian numismatic firm established in the 2010s as a private venture by a group of collectors. In little more than a decade, our name has become synonymous with exceptional numismatic rarities throughout New Zealand.

In 2021 we received our first international appointment as an Official Authorised Dealer in Coins and Banknotes by NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company) and PMG (Paper Money Guaranty) — the world’s most trusted third-party grading services. In the same period, we acquired the 1879 Bank of New Zealand £100 note, the record holder for the highest price ever paid for a New Zealand banknote which was featured in New Zealand Herald.

In 2024 we were appointed the official New Zealand Numismatic Agent for Spink & Son, the historic London auction house established in 1666. Spink’s ties to New Zealand numismatics reach back as early as 1897, which saw the production of the Spink Diamond Jubilee Medal Series for New Zealand, issued to mark the 60th year of Queen Victoria’s reign.

We continue to serve as stewards of fine numismatics. In 2025 this was reflected in two notable highlights: the acquisition and repatriation of the first RBNZ issued banknote to New Zealand, and our role as the first numismatic specialist to assess a 1772 Captain Cook Second Voyage to New Zealand Resolution and Adventure Medal unearthed in Wellington that was the first instance of one discovered in the North Island. 

In 2026, our Christchurch department was re-established as C&B Auctions, introducing a revolutionary model to the New Zealand auction market with 0% Buyer’s Premium, 0% GST Surcharges, and $1 Start Bids.
