Spink (in) New Zealand

Introduction to Public Numismatic Auctions

Aventine Coins & Bullion is an international dealership offering a complete range of numismatic services. We are also appointed as the nation's global numismatic agent for Spink & Son, the world's premier collectables auction house, founded in London in 1666.

Choice items are always welcome to be inspected at our office or by private appointment nationwide. We facilitate the consignment of choice collectibles, including coins, banknotes, and medals for upcoming global numismatic auctions, while offering direct purchase options for clients who prefer immediate sales or private treaty arrangements.

Auction Process Overview

Spink & Son conducts world-renowned public auctions for numismatic rarities and entire collections, providing an unmatched global reach for the New Zealand market.

The Sales Process

Initial Consultation: Contact us for a complimentary, no-obligation assessment of your item(s) from anywhere in New Zealand. Based on your specific needs, we can recommend the most suitable course of action — either consigning for auction or making a direct cash sale to us.

Shipping & Administration: Once your items are with us, we handle every aspect of the logistics — from secure shipping through private couriers to direct flights to and from London, where required. We maintain a comprehensive insurance policy with Lloyds of London, ensuring security throughout every stage of the process.

Auction Placement: Following an evaluation by Spink's independent specialists, we will advise on the most suitable placement of your item(s) in an upcoming auction.

Fees: Aventine offers New Zealand’s most competitive commission structure, with rates among the lowest available in the domestic market — ranging from a maximum of just 7.5% and, for select items, as low as 0%.

Our all-inclusive fee structure, determined on your item’s realized hammer price, ensures complete transparency with no hidden or additional charges. This commission covers every stage of the sales process, including:

  • Sale Commission
  • Applicable Freight & Insurance Coverage
  • Applicable domestic and international sales taxes. A New Zealand GST surcharge does not apply to the sale price for our vendors.
  • Customs ( Import & Export ) Clearance and Duties

Where third-party certification is required (e.g., NGC or PMG) or requested by the seller, any associated costs will be clearly advised separately, if applicable.

Reserves: Seller reserves are available to ensure your item(s) meet your desired minimum sale price.

Cash Advances: An interest-free cash advance may be offered to select clients upon request.

Sale Updates: Consigners/Sellers have live access to Spink's auction platform (no sign-up required), with full visibility of online sales results.

Settlement: Payment for item(s) sold through Spink is typically made within 35-45 working days of the auction’s close upon a successful sale to a buyer. FX conversion rates are applied on the day of settlement, calculated by our preferred bankers, the Bank of New Zealand ( BNZ ). Expedited options — including full settlement within three working days — are available upon request.
