Spink (in) New Zealand

Introduction to Public Auctions

Aventine Coins & Bullion is an international numismatic dealership offering a comprehensive range of specialist services across coins, banknotes, medals, and bullion. We are also appointed as New Zealand’s global numismatic agent for Spink & Son, the world's premier collectables auction house, founded in London in 1666.

Significant and choice items are always welcome for inspection, either at our offices or by private appointment nationwide. We facilitate the consignment of important collectibles for upcoming international numismatic auctions on the global market, while also offering direct purchase and private treaty options for clients.

Auction Process Overview

Spink & Son conducts world-renowned public auctions of numismatic rarities and complete collections, offering an unparalleled global reach for local sellers in the New Zealand market.

The Sales Process

Initial Consultation: Contact us for a complimentary, no-obligation assessment of your item(s) anywhere in New Zealand. Based on your specific needs, we can recommend suitable options such as an auction consignment or a direct cash sale to us.

Shipping & Administration: Once your items are with us, we handle every aspect of logistics — from secure shipping through private couriers and even direct flights to London. We maintain a comprehensive insurance policy with Lloyds of London that specifically covers coins, banknotes, medals, and precious metals.

Fees: Aventine offers New Zealand’s most competitive commission structure, with our rates, typically ranging from a maximum of 10% and as low as 0.1% for suitable collections.

Our all-inclusive fee structure is determined by your item’s realised/hammer price. This commission covers every stage of the sales process, including:

  • Sale Commission for Aventine & Spink and Son
  • Applicable Freight & Insurance Coverage
  • Applicable domestic and international sales taxes. A New Zealand GST surcharge does not apply to the sale price for our vendors.
  • Customs ( Import & Export ) Fees

Where third-party certification (e.g. NGC or PMG) is required or requested by the seller, any associated costs will be clearly advised separately, where applicable.

Reserves: Vendor reserves are available to ensure your item(s) meet your desired minimum sale price.

Cash Advances: An interest-free cash advance may be offered to select clients upon request.

Sale Updates: Consigners/Sellers have live access to Spink's auction platform (no sign-up required), with full visibility of online sales results.

Settlement: Payment for item(s) sold through Spink is typically made within 45 working days of the auction’s close, upon a successful sale to a buyer. FX rates are calculated by our bankers, the BNZ bank.
