Introduction to Public Auctions
Auction Process Overview
Spink & Son conducts world-renowned public auctions of numismatic rarities and complete collections, offering an unparalleled global reach for local sellers in the New Zealand market.
The Sales Process
Initial Consultation: Contact us for a complimentary, no-obligation assessment of your item(s) anywhere in New Zealand. Based on your specific needs, we can recommend suitable options such as an auction consignment or a direct cash sale to us.
Shipping & Administration: Once your items are with us, we handle every aspect of logistics — from secure shipping through private couriers and even direct flights to London. We maintain a comprehensive insurance policy with Lloyds of London that specifically covers coins, banknotes, medals, and precious metals.
Fees: Aventine offers New Zealand’s most competitive commission structure, with our rates, typically ranging from a maximum of 10% and as low as 0.1% for suitable collections.
Where third-party certification (e.g. NGC or PMG) is required or requested by the seller, any associated costs will be clearly advised separately, where applicable.
Reserves: Vendor reserves are available to ensure your item(s) meet your desired minimum sale price.
Cash Advances: An interest-free cash advance may be offered to select clients upon request.
Sale Updates: Consigners/Sellers have live access to Spink's auction platform (no sign-up required), with full visibility of online sales results.
Settlement: Payment for item(s) sold through Spink is typically made within 45 working days of the auction’s close, upon a successful sale to a buyer. FX rates are calculated by our bankers, the BNZ bank.
