Spink (in) New Zealand

Consign Locally, Sell Globally

Aventine Coins & Bullion is an international numismatic dealership offering a comprehensive range of specialist services across coins, banknotes, medals, and bullion. We are also appointed as New Zealand's global numismatic agent for Spink & Son, the renowned collectables auction house founded in London in 1666.

Significant and choice items are always welcome for inspection, either at our offices or by private appointment nationwide. We facilitate the consignment of important collectables to leading international numismatic auctions, while also offering direct purchase and private treaty options for clients.

Auction Process Overview

Spink & Son conducts world-renowned public auctions of numismatic rarities and complete collections, giving sellers in the New Zealand market an unparalleled global reach.

The Sales Process

Consultation: Contact us for a complimentary, no-obligation assessment of your item(s), anywhere in New Zealand. Based on your needs, we can recommend the most suitable route — typically an auction consignment or a direct cash sale to us.

Shipping & Administration: Once your items are with us, we handle every aspect of logistics — from secure shipping via private couriers through to direct flights to London. We maintain a comprehensive private insurance policy with HW Wood that specifically covers coins, banknotes, medals, and precious metals.

Fees: Aventine offers one of New Zealand's most competitive commission structures, with rates typically ranging from a maximum of 10% down to as low as 0.1% for suitable collections.

Our all-inclusive fee is determined by your item's realised (hammer) price and covers every stage of the sales process, including:

  • Sale commission for both Aventine and Spink & Son
  • Applicable freight and insurance coverage
  • Applicable domestic and international sales taxes — note that no New Zealand GST surcharge is applied to the sale price for our vendors
  • Customs fees (import and export)

Where third-party certification (e.g. NGC or PMG) is required or requested by the seller, any associated costs are advised separately and clearly in advance.

Reserves: Vendor reserves are available to ensure your item(s) meet your desired minimum sale price.

Cash advances: An interest-free cash advance may be offered to select clients on request.

Sale updates: Consignors have live access to Spink's auction platform (no sign-up required), with full visibility of online sale results.

Settlement: Payment for items sold through Spink is typically made within 45 working days of the auction's close, following a successful sale. Foreign-exchange rates are calculated by our bankers, BNZ.
