Among the ANE’s most significant historic objects is a silver Halfcrown that once circulated in New Zealand, inscribed with the date of the opening of New Zealand’s First Exhibition in 1865. Sir George Grey—then Governor of New Zealand and later Premier—was absent from the event, caused major offence to locals according to contemporary sources.
