The 1897 Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria marked an unprecedented milestone—sixty years of continuous reign, the longest by any British monarch at the time.

To commemorate this historic occasion, Spink & Son, already renowned as one of London’s premier medalists and numismatic firms, issued a series of medals, including a dedicated series for New Zealand.

The obverse bears a portrait of Queen Victoria by Frank Boucher. The reverse displays “NEW ZEALAND” beneath a central shield featuring the scales of justice and a cross, with the inscription “SPINK LONDON”.

These rare medals, issued in bronze, white metal, and silver, reflect Spink’s international reach as early as the 19th century. They stand among the earliest numismatic tributes to New Zealand’s unique national identity.

More than a century later, this historic link continues.

In 2024, Aventine Numismatics & Collectables was appointed as the official numismatic agent for Spink in New Zealand, connecting New Zealand with one of the world’s foremost names in fine numismatics.

Continue the legacy.
