Preface:
Welcome to Aventine’s Auction No. 2—a three-day public sale of a wide selection of numismatic items. All items have a starting bid of just $1.00 NZD with no reserve prices. Our platform for this sale is TradeMe, which is limited to buyers in New Zealand and Australia.
Among the sale's highlights are New Zealand's Iconic Coin, the 1935 Waitangi Crown, alongside a spectacular Athens Owl Tetradrachm from Ancient Greece, considered among the finest examples of this type we have handled.
Other items include a Spanish gold 4 Doubloons, an 1825 Half Sovereign, various European crown-sized coins, and a New Zealand mint error penny from 1945, a very scarce occurrence among surviving pre-decimal coinage. Noteworthy banknotes feature a $5 New Zealand note signed by Sir Edmund Hillary, specially authorized by the RBNZ to commemorate the anniversary of the ascent to Mt. Everest. Historic issues include a 1934 New Zealand Five Pounds that depicts King Tāwhiao and an 1899 Bank of New Zealand Specimen One Pound.
Medal collectors will find a selection of items from 19th-century New Zealand from Anton Teutenberg, a prominent Auckland engraver, and other large-sized silver medals and memorabilia.
Auction sessions will close daily in the evening from Saturday, November 30th, to Monday, December 2nd. And finally, to our valued bidders and consigners, both returning and new, we thank you for joining us.
